According to the Irish Times, Ireland’s Finance Minister Michael McGrath said that vape will be taxed from next year to help address the “insidious” practices of manufacturers targeting young people.
McGrath confirmed in an interview on Today with Claire Byrne Show that the Treasury had begun working with the Inland Revenue Department to announce a vape tax in the next budget. Implementation will begin next year.
This is consistent with the announcement in last October’s budget that a tax on e-cigarettes and vaping products would be introduced in Budget 2025.
“What I’m doing is taking a comprehensive approach to consult across government to make sure the policy positions we take are fully consistent. But I believe that will lead to new taxes being announced in the next budget and It will be launched next year,” he said.
