According to draft regulations introduced by the British government on March 11, 2024, the sale of disposable will be banned in the UK from April 2025. Any merchant who violates the regulations will face a fine of 200 pounds and may be imprisoned. Once the regulations come into force, merchants found to be selling disposable will face fixed fines or be issued a compliance/stop-sale notice, ensuring they cease selling these products.
The government has also released an impact report predicting will have on profits across the retail industry. It is expected that losses will reach 648 million pounds and 761 million pounds in 2025 and 2026 respectively.
This figure is calculated by multiplying the average price of disposable e-cigarettes by projected annual sales. This number is then multiplied by 24%, which is the projected revenue margin, based on data from the Annual Business Survey. However, this draft was criticized by ACS.
The government is still accepting comments and views on the draft until March 25.
