Brazilian lawmakers are considering a proposal to legalize the e-cigarette business, JP reported.

E-cigarettes are currently banned in Brazil, but are available throughout the country. In order to restore market order, the Brazilian Senate has proposed legislation to regulate the production, commercialization, import and use of e-cigarette devices and establish control, inspection and advertising rules.

Among other measures, the proposed legislation would require e-cigarette companies to register their products with health regulators, the Federal Tax Office and other agencies. The bill also stipulates fines ranging from 20,000 Brazilian reals to 10 million Brazilian reals for those who sell e-cigarettes to buyers under the age of 18.
